The study of cultural landscapes stresses the dynamic interplay between humans and their natural environments. Cultural landscapes can be defined at many geographic scales and represent diverse cultural phenomena. Landscape research provides the broad cultural context for planning and preservation across regions or localities, enhancing visitor experience, increasing public awareness, and identifying preservation priorities. Rivanna Archaeology has acted as landscape historians for local, state and national parks, trails and historic sites and districts. We frequently partner with landscape architects to provide historical context for a range of private and public projects. Our cultural landscape services include:
  • Historical Research
  • Identification of Cultural Resources
  • Landscape Mapping
  • Development of Historical Themes and Narratives
  • Preservation Recommendations
  • Interpretive Signage and Educational Literature
